I can NTfraud everything, except for one thing

People (expecially friends and family) crying/showing sadness.
Everybody else looks so comfortable hugging and saying kind words to them, meanwhile I stand there like a retard and eventually say something inappropriate for the situation.

One time a friend of mine was telling me that his grandfather had died the previous week and after an awkward moment of silence I replied "mine too" (it was true though, mine too had died the previous week but still )

Does anyone have any tips? This keeps getting me into embarassing situations
