It's actually a very good sport from a human evolutionary perspective.
Because it uses your feet.
All the techniques are very good for upright posture, spatial awareness and capitalizing your leg.
But football is a paradox because it uses both slow twitch(distance running) and fast twitch(kicking with power).
All sports are good actually. Even cricket.
As an MMA fighter, I'd recommend football, tennis, table tennis(alertness, reflex), volleyball(footwork) and hockey(hand dexterity).
Basketball is good too, if you like position yourself and try to score at the hoops.
Basketball seems more fast twitch than football even.
