Open source helps, but it’s not magic. Nobody is manually auditing millions of lines of code on every single update, so assuming it's 100% immune to backdoors or exploits is pretty naive.

Plus, the irony is hilarious: to run the ultimate "private" OS, you literally have to buy hardware directly from Google. Beneath Graphene, the cellular modem and hardware chips are still running closed-source, proprietary firmware that nobody can audit anyway. Throw in the fact that most people end up using Sandboxed Google Play Services just to get normal apps to work, and you're really not as off-the-grid as you think
