like seriously every country on earth has problems every single one but when it comes to india people act like the entire country can be summed up by the worst 10 clips they saw on social media
india has problems sure garbage management overcrowded cities infrastructure gaps in some places nobody denies that indians themselves talk about it all the time but the way global media frames it sometimes feels completely out of proportion
people forget something very important india only became independent on august 15 1947 that’s not even a century ago it has been less than 80 years since india was liberated from british colonial rule
before that india went through nearly 200 years of colonial extraction where wealth resources and industries were systematically drained when independence happened in 1947 the country inherited massive poverty weak infrastructure and a deeply damaged economy
and yet despite all of that india has grown into a 3+ trillion dollar economy and the largest democracy in the world with over 1 4 billion people
that’s honestly insane when you think about the scale
meanwhile there are countries that got independence around the same time or even earlier and still haven’t reached that level of economic size or global influence
for example
philippines gained independence in 1946 one year before india and its economy today is around 400+ billion
ghana became independent in 1957 and its economy is around 70–80 billion
jamaica got independence in 1962 and its economy is roughly 17 billion
zambia became independent in 1964 and its economy is about 30 billion
these countries have their own strengths and challenges but the point is development takes time building a huge modern economy after colonial rule does not happen overnight
india did it while managing more than 1 4 billion people massive cultural diversity and a democratic system
in less than 80 years india has managed to build one of the largest tech workforces in the world a massive startup ecosystem global leadership in it medicine and engineering a space program that sent missions to mars and the moon and a rapidly growing digital economy
that does not mean india is perfect obviously it isn’t no country is
the united states struggles with gun violence and mass shootings many european countries deal with aging populations and economic stagnation some oil rich nations rely almost entirely on natural resources and imported labor
every country has issues
but when people talk about india online they often act like the negatives define the entire country a random viral clip from a crowded street suddenly becomes the image of 1 4 billion people
what people rarely see in those viral narratives are things like india’s massive tech hubs like bangalore hyderabad and pune modern metro systems expanding across cities the booming startup ecosystem and millions of engineers scientists doctors and entrepreneurs contributing globally
another thing people underestimate is scale when a country has more than a billion people even a small percentage of problems can look huge online but that does not represent the whole population
and historically india has contributed enormously to global knowledge ancient indian scholars developed the concept of zero the decimal system and major foundations of algebra and trigonometry indian astronomers studied planetary motion centuries before modern instruments existed
so when people reduce india to stereotypes or a few viral clips it just feels lazy
india is a complicated country with real challenges but also massive progress talent and potential and considering that modern india has only existed since august 15 1947 the amount it has achieved in under a century is honestly remarkable
if anything the real story is not just about india’s problems it is about how far it has come in such a short time ( used chatgpt to format this , diction)
