Every male (XY individual) inherits two haplogroups, one from his Y chromosome and one from his X chromosome. Since women only have an X chromosome, they can only find out their maternal haplogroup if they get tested themselves. Men can find out both haplogroups. With those haplogroups assigned to you, you can have a deeper look into your ancestry. Whereas autosomal tests only go back 300 years at most, if you get your haplogroups, you can go back 1000s of years. But you'll end up with a bunch of questions, like "How did they get there?" And "Why does a person in a country thousands of miles away have the same haplogroup?" It can get pretty confusing, it's pretty much a can of worms.

Only if you go for deep-testing. LivingDNA is less than $100 and you get both haplogroups. Same for 23andme but their database got hacked so I wouldn't test with them.
