Ehh, this is probably true. Babies are always the first thing people stop giving a shit about in times of hardship, war, sieges, famine, extreme weather etc or abandoned. Unfortunately I think this is inherent to all mammals sometimes you just can't raise offspring successfully due to conditions and stuff, makes perfect sense.
