I think maybe we have a warped perception where people with long midfaces are because it's due to recession rather than naturally genetically landing there. If you have good eye and jaw then your midface is necessarily the right length due to your genetics, if you have a long face set down and back with eyeballs exposed and a week jawline then yeah it's over

Its all about proportions. You want the lower third of your face to be longer than the rest, not the top or middle portion.
