The second I hear any Ivy league school name-dropped or I read it online my day is ruined. From my early childhood I've been told that anything less is a disappointment and now my whole attitude on universities is fucked. I go to a pretty good uni but often times late at night/early morning I spend hours on end thinking I'm a failure and that I ruined my life because I could've put in more effort and been accepted into an Ivy league.

I honestly feel like subhuman trash when I remember multiple dumbass people I know back in grade school/highschool being accepted into Harvard/Stanford. I feel a deep hole in my chest, a very empty feeling.

Lately that empty feeling has been turning into anger.

I spend 4+ hours looking at transfer acceptance rates and reading Reddit posts of people who claim to have attended Ivies. I know I could've gotten into one, I scored 1540 on the SAT but my GPA got fucked because I was extremely depressed during my sophomore and junior years likely due to taking accutane. I still think I'm smart but with each passing year my mind becomes more deranged and my thoughts become more violent.

I'm only a little over a year into college right now so maybe I can still transfer? I have almost all A's only a single B. I can't imagine the euphoria of being accepted into an Ivy League. If I were ever accepted it'd be a huge weight off my shoulders. It's like I've been carrying heavy weights for over a decade and that's the only way to get rid of them. I think there's something wrong with me. Life doesn't feel real. I haven't slept in 24 hours. My therapist said I might be schizophrenic.

remember without an ivy league tier face, Ivy League is nothing. most guys are better off doing the same degree in another university and getting a stable job that pays decent. career progression is only available for good looking people.

This is extremely dependent on the field. If we're talking comp sci I completely disagree. If we're talking investment banking sure you're right, but networking is far more important. I feel like people on this form try to inject looks into every facet of life and while yes I do think looks are extremely important there are some very important things they do not decide. Ivy League is still insanely good for your future even if you're an average looking Joe.

Transfer rates are extremely low and you need an insanely good story to have a shot at being accepted. It's much easier to get in as a freshman.

Oh :/ shit that makes sense then. I only know like 2 ppl who transferred schools, one being my mom when she was in college (but she was an immigrant so she prolly used that story), and some guy from my neighborhood who used to be like a gangbanger who changed completely, but they wouldnt give him a full ride and he couldnโ€™t pay for the school anyway

I could afford it but even if my parents chose not to support me I'd gladly go into debt to attend an Ivy League. It isn't even about the level of education I'd get there. It's all about feeling like I have self worth and displaying to others that I have merit, I mean if one of the most successful schools in the country thought I had merit no one could deny me as a person.

What's so special about ivy leagues compared to other universities? In my university (university of buenos aires faculty of engineering) we mog mit students in math, science and theorical knowledge of engineering, degrees here in theory are 6 years long but most students take +8 years to graduate, in total they are 4800 hours of classroom courses, so in USA degrees from here are considered a bachellor + master, this is the best university in latin america, most other universities in the country are trash.

Do you mind saying what univeristy you go to?

I donโ€™t mean this in an offensive or racist way, are your parents indian/asian?

Just based off of people I know, their parents generally instill that โ€œall or nothingโ€ concept and it can be really damaging to the kids

Dunno what that is

the name of the school on your degree isnt everything. if you have enough street smart and are low inhib you can be successful. all that paper dictates is how good of an employee youll be to the company youll trade your time for

What's Ivy League, SAT, GPA, etc. I'm from Romania, we don't have these things here, anyone can go to any university he wants here, there's nothing special about them...

Not credible unless you went to a very expensive private school.

Similar story, Iโ€™ve always been 99.9th percentile but was a dog shit student because I have sleep apnea. Iโ€™m also a rich and athletic white boy so no essay topic theyโ€™d want to hear. So all my try hard classmates that I iq mogged went off to Ivy League, mit, Oxford, whatever. I didnโ€™t bother applying and donโ€™t regret it. Super overpriced, takes forever, and the info is shit. At this point, a nice degree is your way to show big corporations that you were willing to waste so much of your time and money for a chance to work for them. By the time you get hired the company owns you. Learn real skills, make an honest living.

If u think being successful is what u need its over. Its just a system bro. U will get a job and survive but who will u come home to?

No I'm African but my parents are pretty successful and my Mom is definitely like an Asian tiger mom.

It's about the bragging rights and attending an Ivy League is basically a springboard into rich old money circles

Even if this is true it's insanely good to start out of the gate with a high paying job versus having to climb the ladder for years.

I didn't go to a private school but a fuck ton of people from my highschool go to Ivy's every year. It's one of the top rated public highschools in the country, people send their kids here over private schools.

Same, I know I had what it takes but I sabotaged myself so fucking hard with depression. I really think if I never got depression I'd be at an Ivy.

Maybe my priorities are fucked up but I don't really care about that stuff. I've never been in love so it's not real to me. Even my parents think there's something off about me just fucking lol. As if they didn't put ridiculous amounts of stress on me from an early age and raise me to be antisocial and cold. At least they learned their mistake and raised my younger brothers normally.

If you're not going into business or finance, attending an ivy is just throwing money away and putting undue stress on yourself, even if you got a full ride scholarship and didn't have to worry about money.

You're clearly smart, 1540 on the SAT is insane and mogs my pissweak 29 ACT. Once you enter the workforce (aka real life) where you went to college will simply become a footnote on your resume.

makes no fucking sense

Do a masters at an Ivy if it bothers you so much

Iโ€™m not too fussed about it but I could have got into Oxford but didnโ€™t go because the tuition fees in my other uni was cheaper XD
