your correct the reason is simple MONEY, when these apps first started the had 5 day super likes, you could see if a person visited your profiled and at what time. You could see who liked you. And the only payed subscription gave boost to have your profile showed more in the stack or to make your profile show you in other countries. Then companies started to remove features behind paywalls. HEck pof has made it so you can only message one person every 24 hours unless you pay for their service.
