what was it like dealing with insurance to cover surgeries like bimax? did u have to get a letter from an orthodontist demonstrating a poor bite or a sleep doctor proving sleep apnea? I have some asymmetry with a slight crossbite and a pop when I open my mouth, and mildly recessed chin, so I don't know if that would be enough for it to be covered.

My orthodontist wasn't part of the insurance process. Only my surgeon was involved. For me to get approved for Lefort 1 and BSSO, the surgeon said I had "Maxillary Defficiency" and it was approved in a few weeks after the initial appointment.

I was pretty shocked how easy it was. I thought it would initially be denied as "cosmetic" and I would have to appeal it and request a peer-to-peer review. But it was approved on the first try.

I have Aetna Health Insurance and my surgeon is known for really working hard to get claims approved so keep that in mind.
