No, I got a palate expander beforehand instead, so they didn’t need to extract, but I was planning on just getting the expander and then not show up to the braces appointment

They dont. They jut the lips forward creating the illusion of a recessed maxilla. You should be debloated 10/10 times when wearing braces to counteract.

In younger patients the maxilla can go forward upto 4 mm using elastics class 3. And older patients the teeth and the bone could go forward upto 2 mm. Class 2 elastics will recess tho
