Ya any orthodontist will have a regular palate expander, some might be apprehensive to give you one due to your age, you will need braces with it too so around 5k and a few months

well it's hard to tell for me. my face has changed for the better so much that it almost feels weird not to mew (unless i'm eating or talking obviously). if your palate is narrow i could imagine making mewing a habit to be quite a challenge.

yep. that's the most common and reliable way it is done.
do you have some proper way to measure this? i get lots of wildly different measurements
get a set of calipers first, although you could try doing this with a ruler but it won't be that accurate.
