99 percent of it requires no skill just spending time learning the methods, 0 actually necessity for iq

Nah. I think good work ethic and intelligence are mostly independent of each other.

Knew some smart guys who did next to nothing and did very well and equally smart ones who were obsessive perfectionists.

Yeah those are types but I'm talking generally about the curriculum especially engineering, it doesn't have the opportunity for true conceptual thinking in most cases. Just being acquainted with a method to the point you can solve problems but you don't really understand the history of the science or ways to extend the same method into new, interesting domains. Obviously not an issue if you have high conscientiousness but it's not always that happens and lots of intellectual capital is lost because the curriculum fails to engage

True. I think a national curriculum can’t properly engage people on the extreme end of the bell curve without leaving average IQ students behind though.
