I was just about to type this.

At least what I’ve noticed from my brown friends. Lots of them whose parents established themselves and made money in the West.

Feel like an obligation to send money to relatives even if they are leeching. Think it’s just because when you came from where they are, they were poor. Then you make it; you want to help your less fortunate family (to make it like you). But often times these family members don’t have any desire to change and just leach off the money.

This is more of just an immigrant thing, though, than just desi.

It's pressure that they feel.

It's harder to break ties with family, so they keep lending. Just a cycle of destruction.
