the main problem i had with a journal (that you may get also) was that i can wake up from them at like 4am, and if you don't write down what happened as soon as you wake up then you will forget it too quickly. The act of turning on my phone flash and writing into a book made it harder to fall asleep again and is somewhat disruptive
