I doubt it would go like that. Especially if the girl just smiled at you. Most people will say more than that unless they really don't want to talk to you. But I'll entertain you. I would say, "Yah, it looks good, I might have to try it next time."

After that you can gauge her next response and if she's engaging then transition to another topic that's relevant to whatever setting you're in. If you're at school ask "what are you studying?" or "What's your major?".

I know it's hard when you're not NT, because I went through the awkward phase too but I pushed through it and it got easier

Doesn't matter bro, I can't even read body language so I don't care. I just talk to the girl and ask for her number. That's it. If she gives it to me I text her and if she texts me back I keep talking and then ask her out and if she makes up too many excuses or or rejects me then I move on
