It's legit but most people are not mentally strong to not eat for a whole day especially 3 days in a row and will end up becoming bullimic like a girl in her teens.

i speak from experience. I tried that shit out and yoyo dieted for the whole year starving myself for days just to eat the calories back in a binge. I lost bodyfat by actually eating in a 500 calorie defecit, and it was much better to say the least
