I just realized that ai companies are selling us their little bit of what they have.

They give us their incomplete designs. They've already developed some advanced stuff they just don't want to show us because why the fuck would they? In short they are thinking ahead, when new AI's come on the market that will compete with them they will just add the already developed stuff to stay one step ahead of others.
