There's just something so soothing to the soul waking up in the middle of the night to see your cat deeply asleep next to you.
I have been living by myself for the last... I want to say 8 years. Every day I wake up, just me. No mom, no dad, no siblings, no wife, no gf, no nothing. And I do believe this has changed my brain chemistry.
But waking up and seeing this cat next to you gives you a small sense of "I'm not in some deep dark void" anymore. There's movement. There's life here. And you remember that you too are alive.
That's when you know you've been in the void too long. When you see nothing but dark around, and you conclude "there is no life in this void". Because inside you, is now the same ubiquitous void.
