But if you want people arguing or actually having a conversation with you in that thread that you created, it has to be controversial or engaging.

It's not an asshole thing to say if you're making shit threads, the proof is in the pudding. If people aren't bumping up your threads and you aren't getting to second, third, or fourth+ pages than you aren't making engaging threads for people to argue. That's not an asshole thing to say. It's evident.
