Like many things, chess is easy to learn and get a grip on but it takes a ridiculous amount of time to get even decent at. It also infects the mind. Sometimes when I play chess I will then think about moves and setups for hours afterwards, it's so easy to imagine the board in the mind that you can sit there and play matches in your head forever
