I never realized it until now, but…

You and your grades.
Hey Lefty bhai! I’m student teaching now, I started this month. I’ve been assigned to 7th grade students for now. I’ve been told there are students with behavioral problems. I’m planning to seeing them as well. Basically, for my internship I have to explore the whole school system and it’s not necessary for me, but I’m just curious.

I was apologizing very formally. You’ll get there. I need to re-start studying Japanese again, ugh. But I’ve been busy with college and stuff.

Are you in high school or in college? Honestly, the subjects I have now rely less on studying in a traditional way. In my previous semester, only one exam relied on traditional studying, which was grammar. My other assignments were essays, presentations and video essays. Oh, and an oral exam as well.
high school

I've never tried in my life studying is just so boring but now the grades actually matter

You’re in the United States, right? Aren’t you able to graduate even if you fail all your classes?

Mirin your grind. I honestly have time to study Japanese on the side, but I’m just so… lazy. If I hadn’t stopped studying, I probably could have been at N3 level right now.

In Europe, we use CEFR levels to determine how well someone speaks a language. The lowest is A1 and the highest is C2. For the Japanese language, it goes from N5 through N1, with N1 meaning fluency.

Makes sense. Is there a compensation system there? We have one. Let’s say you fail one subject, you can still pass provided you have at least one subject in which your GPA is a 7 (a 6 is passing, a 5 is failure), then you can use that to compensate for your failing class. If your final grade average is a 4, you can compensate that another grade average if it’s an 8. Because 8 + 4 =12/ 2 =6.

I’m good at underestimating myself. I’m probably at N4 level already. But to be sure, I say I’m N4.5 (this level doesn’t exist, it’s just N5, N4, N3, N2 and N1, but I use it to say “between N5 and N4.”

Makes sense. What made you wanna learn it? For me, it’s so that I’ll be able to watch untranslated Japanese horror movies.

Theres no compensation system it comes down to ur grade in that class

If u get below 50 in a class its fail, above 50 its pass

I see, that sucks. Having a compensation system would certainly help. Ok, I suggest you try putting away all electronic items for a period of time so that you can focus on studying from your textbook or whatever.

Lolwat. How does that even work? Don’t you have physical classes? I doubt I could study online. Too many distractions!

Only physical class I had last semester was phys ed and we even had online work there :lul: quizzes and other stuff

Literally everythings on the laptop that's just how my school is. Teachers post lessons on google classroom, assignments etc u kinda just sit there in silence. For other subjects like math we have paper and look up at the projector, but the daily work is posted on the course calendar so you need to go online for that too.

Jeez. I would never do online teaching, that just seems ass. I dropped out in 2020 because classes were online due to COVID-19.

Online teaching was surely unthinkable back when I was in high school. I guess COVID-19 turned the “impossible” into “possible.”
