I owe $73,000 to the IRS and just got this letter? Should I pay or just ignore it?

Here’s the realistic options I have

Pay it all at once but that’s retarded

Setup monthly payments but you have to owe less than 50,000 to do that so I would still have to pay 23,000 right now

Ignore it

Unrealistic option

Hope that they will let me bring it down to $0

Ask my dad to help

I have no criminal record, and would be first time offender so I would go to the prison like wolf of Wall Street guy and play tennis everyday

How did you do your taxes?

I was doing some research and the irs can take your passport away if you owe more than 50 bandz in taxes

Might just pay $23,000 and then forget about it. I can’t lose my most valuable possession

Super bad tbh. I did it in a rush on deadline day while in a hotel in Manchester United Kingdom so forgot to add a bunch of deductions like my Tesla that I bought. But still deducted like $25,000

Or another possible play is declare bankruptcy?

But do I have to move to america if I do that? If not, I could declare bankruptcy and just keep chilling overseas

I tried to call irs just now but they’re already closed for the day

Guess I’ll call tomorrow and be late

What I could also do is somehow figure out how to either get uk or German citizenship as my aunt holds both these nationalities. Would prob be a lot of work tho and I’d prob still get extradited xD

Pay it, the IRS has agreements with dozens of countries regarding tax laws and whatnot. You're not nearly rich enough to get away with not paying a penny.

Haha, I did the same last year, got audited and the IRS fucked me out of my refund. It was a huge pain in the ass. I never want to deal with the IRS like that again.

You really couldn’t pay anyone to do those for you? Would probably have saved you thousands net.

You’re gonna have to pay it either way, maybe have some relatives help with paying the initial $23K.

I could’ve but it would’ve just pushed it to 180 days with the same outcome

I guess it would’ve been a good idea since I would’ve saved on some of the late fees but whatevs. It’s only like $1,000 so far

Well shoot man. I don't know what you should do but this is one of the many reasons I'm interested in acquiring a second citizenship. Maybe you should just pay it.

why are they charging interest? is it delinquent?

I was told by a tax expert that you just send in small amounts and they can't charge interest
