She made a reckless impulse decision to commit suicide after her bf broke up with her but she survived the gunshot. The gunshot completely disfigured her face and she is blind + speech inpediment (assuming its due to brain damage).

This is the kind of shit nobody recovers from, she is alive and coping but her family is destroyed along with her legacy. She was very good looking before the accident and she has ruined her life due to one reckless decision.
