when i wear a mask women make eye contact, cashiers smile, strangers are polite, and i actually feel like i exist

they treat me like a person

the way people look at me, the way they talk to me, even how long they hold eye contact completely changes

i’m not invisible anymore

i’m not someone they instinctively recoil from
