I got a job and got fired after a week 
shit crushed any drive I had to improve and thus I isolated myself
Technically wasn’t a NEET but I didn’t go to university for 6 months straight and I only lost my hikikomori status because they called an attendance meeting and told me I had to have 100% attendance over the rest of the year otherwise I’d get kicked out.
For 6 months straight, I’d only leave my house after 11pm (when it was dark so no one was out) once a week to get groceries, and I’d only leave my place at 3am to chainsmoke cigarettes right outside my building.
I was living alone at the time which is what gave me the agency to do this, I’d usually just larp to my mother about how I’m going to party every weekend with my new friends so she wouldn’t get angry at me if she really knew I was up to.
During this time I only went to see my mother twice, never saw the few friends I had IRL, and always made excuses to not hang out with neighbours.
Looking back on it now, I don’t know how I didn’t go mentally insane after that much isolation
