Blackpill I strongly believe that ARM is the future and x86 will only be a servers thing

Title. I can make a thread on this but I have insider info on this due to my company contacts. x86 is soon going to get retired or will change to mimic ARM closely.

I agree arm has been becoming more powerful while using less energy

It has way more potential:feelsez:

Lifefuel. I would love a windows laptop having same performance and efficiency as Apple
Panther lake and snapdragon x elite chips have caught up a lot tbh. Only in 1-2 generations the gap will be closed like it did with a series

It's optimization issue on windows side.

I can make a thread on this without going into too much of technical but my friend who designs this stuff told me the main advantage is the SoC system on chip. CPU, GPU and nerural engine all being in the same die with unified memory is what is a game changer. On top of that apple in particular also has a head start of around ~5 years to optimize evrything. Windows will catch up but it will take time.

For 99% people Arm is Future. Most people want a laptop that lasts long , quiet and has decent enough performance. x86 compromises performance for efficiency ( like Lunar Lake). Only niche tools like autocad etc would need x86 based dedicated gpu systems.

What rounds did you have? Do they have DSA, system design? How many of them?
SO 5

DSA IN LITERALLY 3 ROUNDS , EXCEPT THE SCREENING LIKE NOT THE USUAL LEETCODE STUFF

MORE LIKE WALKTHROUGH , YOUR APPROACH AND STUFF

SYSTEM DESIGN WAS MORE RELATED TO KNOWING DISTRIBUTED TRAINING CLUSTERS

THEN THEY GRILLED ME MORE ABOUT THEIR PRODUCTS LIKE CUDA AND SHI

THEY WANTED TO KNOW DO I ACTUALLY KNOW THOSE STUFF OR MEH

AND ALSO THERE WAS A DOMAIN ROUND LIKE IT WAS TOTALLY MEANT FOR KNOWING IF I KNOW GPU MEMORY HIERARCHY OR NAH

Interesting so they drilled you a lot on hardware stuff too. Did they ask you about VLSI design and digital design stuff? I know they ask it often in even their software interviews

NAH BRO

LIKE THEY DIDNT GO DEEP JUST DEALT IT WITH SURFACE LVL STUFF

THEY ASKED ME MORE ON MEMORY HIREARCHY, BIT MANUPILATION ,WRAP DIVERGENCE ,FINDING BOTTLENECKS IN KERNEL AND SHI

x86 is not going anywhere, x86 has been "dying" since 2010 lol
I never said it will go extinct. I'm saying that most consumer grade chips that will come out now will be ARM or behave very similar to ARM. Like panther lake that came out this year is x86 but behaves very similar to ARM the same efficiency cores, performance cores,. aggressive power management, and SoC style integration.

im confused, your moving the goalpost a bit, this is different than your first claim (also, those arent arm things, they are modern chip design things lol, arm popularized them in mobile because of batter constraints, but they are pretty much architecture agnostic concepts)

also if x86 can adopt these traits, whats the advantage with arm? also imo, with panther lake having e cores, it doesnt make it arm like, it just makes it a better x86 chip

When I say x86 is 'behaving like ARM' I mean x86 has been forced to adopt ARM's mobile first design philosophy just to stay relevant in consumer.

x86 by design is built for brute force. And Uses cisc complex instruction and these instruction sets requires complex, decoders. ARM is RISC which is much easier to implement. Arm is also more open while x86 is a monopoly of amd and intel.

i mean meh, maybe, but tbf, saying "force to adopt" is kinda just how tech works lol (like how arm was "forced" to add complex out of order executions, massive reorder buffs etc)

also about the monopoly, i dont knarr actually, tbf, but if you want "open" thats risc-v not arm lol (also like you mentioned earlier how apple has a headstart, apple's arm chips are the most locked down silicon in the industry), you gotta give amd/intel credit for innovation tho, even if it is a monopoly (i wouldnt personally call it one) they are the most innovative "monopoly" holders compared to most other fields

I see ARM everywhere on all my downloads for the most part anyways. Idk what it means tho
ARM processors are a family of central processing units (CPUs) based on a reduced instruction set computer (RISC) architecture. ARM stands for Advanced RISC Machine. ARM architectures represent a different approach to how the hardware for a system is designed when compared to more familiar server architectures like x86.
