I think everyone comes to their conclusions without any part of their brain rationalising. Rationalisation comes after. This is why some people are left and some are right. They didn't listen to one hundred arguments, they already had bias and whatever they consumed was to reinforce it. Your rational mind is only a small part of what goes in your brain. See Jung and Nietzsche for people who are far better at talking about these things than me.

For example have you ever done maths stuff (even if you don't care for it you have probably done some through school) and seen a problem and had the solution almost immediately but you had no idea how did you arrive there and actually proving it is harder than getting to the solution? Instinctually, subconsciously, whatever you want to call it brain does a lot of work for you without any of your input, just like your heart beats without you having to do anything. IIRC Nietzsche said something along the lines that consciousness is merely a sideproduct, an accident, that it isn't necessary per se for brain to exist.
