I visited a very old couple and now I think dying alone may not be so bad

Yesterday we visited an old friend from my father. This friend is in his 70s already and is living with his wife. Here's the point: His wife is in wheelchairs and can barely speak. Needless to say, she looks like a skeleton. I was sad and shocked.

If this is how your partner ends up, I think dying alone may not be so bad. Imagine you live with your wife who can't walk, speak properly and only eats enough to survive. This must be brutal. Better to be alone at a nice apartment with a dog, keeping yourself as fit as possible and have some nurses regularly looking if you're alive, maybe with some friends and family members calling you (with VR technology in the future) and you remembering the best parts of your life until you die.
