When i was in high school I trained for months trying to improve my 100 and 200 dash but it barely made a difference. After I perfected my technique I did not made any progress. My lap times remained the same even after months of training everyday. I wasn't too slow but far from proper sprinter. Its been years and there's barely any progress. I am not a good sprinter but I would say I am decent at marathon running now.

sprinting more genetic marathon running isn't until you reach elite levels

Sprinters are born, marathoners are made.
