I fucking envy the people who get to grow up in countries where they have so much more freedom over what they want to do with their lives. Meanwhile, I’m stuck living in a country so small it isn’t even the size of a single U.S. state, with people constantly being strict about what you can and can’t do and a bunch of weird laws and social expectations.
What pisses me off the most is how limited everything feels. There’s only so much to do, so many places to go, and so many different kinds of people you can meet. Sometimes it genuinely feels like I’m living in a tiny bubble and there’s no way to escape it unless I eventually leave the country.
And honestly, I think where I live is a big part of why I barely have anyone I’d actually call a friend. I find most of the people around me incredibly boring to talk to, and it feels like I rarely meet anyone I genuinely click with. I want to meet people who are interesting, open minded, and actually have things they’re passionate about, instead of having the same repetitive conversations with the same kinds of people.
Another thing that bothers me is being so far removed from my broader family. The country my family is originally from is also a fucking shithole in plenty of ways, but at least it’s a huge country with way more places to go, more opportunities, and a much bigger pool of people to meet. I actually have a lot of extended family there, and I sometimes wish I had grown up around them instead of being here.
Here, my entire family circle is basically just my mom, dad, siblings, and my aunt. That’s pretty much it. I know having immediate family around is already something to be grateful for, but it still feels lonely when you know there’s a much bigger family network somewhere else that you barely get to experience.
I know I’m probably romanticizing life somewhere else, and obviously every country has its own problems. But sometimes I genuinely wonder how different my life would be if I had grown up somewhere bigger, with more opportunities, more interesting people, and a much larger family and social circle around me. Oh yeah and also, I fucking hate my family.
