Gold isn’t worth much if you spend a lot of it in fact that’s why the Spanish empire fell. The true currency in Africa was salt as it was needed to survive also most of Africa wasn’t rich in gold tbh only the dynasties who controlled the gold mines and diamonds. The most advanced feudalistic African empires or Kings always were located near a water source. The ones in the more isolated regions were often tribes.

Portuguese explorers who reached the coast of Africa literally claimed that they had similar building structures to the ones in portugal

The only people in Africa who live tribal lives are those who are surrounded by predators and are far away from a large source of water and those people aren’t able to build a thriving society
