I do think if you were to be Asian though, Japanese would be the best currently

Easy mode life, high status, motherland is homogenous. You’re pretty much 99.9 % likely to be born and raised in Japan too as a Japanese person, so then you’d just have to learn English if you wanted to venture out of Japan

Or you don’t even have to venture out of Japan because Japan has everything already

i do feel your pain too as a non mandarin speaking southern chinese. some chinese from the central core don't even consider us real chinese.

but yea, i grew up around a family speaking yue (cantonese) and min. i basically mostly grew up speaking cantonese though, and even i'm not that fluent because of being raised overseas too.

but ya, i still don't feel chinese because the majority of chinese people speak mandarin now, and it's really hard to learn it. i already have cantonese to deal with, and mandarin is another chinese language that's required for us southerners.

ideally, i would've liked to be born and raised in a mandarin speaking environment. but yea that's too late, and i'm stuck with cantonese, which seems to be slowly losing popularity here in the mainland.
