The Kalām cosmological argument is a variation of the cosmological argument that argues for the existence of a first cause for the universe, and the existence of a god. Its origins can be traced to medieval Jewish, Christian and Muslim thinkers, but most directly to Islamic theologians of the Kalām tradition.[1] Its historic proponents include Al-Kindi,[2] Saadia Gaon,[3] Al-Ghazali,[4] and St. Bonaventure.[5] William Lane Craig revived interest in the Kalām cosmological argument with his 1979 publication of a book of the same name

The Kalām argument was named after the Kalām tradition of Islamic discursive philosophy through which it was first formulated. In Arabic, the word Kalām means "words, discussion, discourse."
The cosmological argument was refined by Al-Kindi, Al-Ghazali (The Incoherence of the Philosophers), and Ibn Rushd (Averroes).[8] In Western Europe, it was adopted by the Christian theologian Bonaventure (See Craig, 1979, p 18). Another form of this argument is based on the concept of a prime-mover, which was also propounded by Averroes.

Classical argument1606160757036.gif

  1. Everything that has a beginning of its existence has a cause of its existence;
  2. The universe has a beginning of its existence; Therefore:
  3. The universe has a cause of its existence.[13]
Contemporary argument1606160757081.gif

William Lane Craig formulates the argument with an additional set of premises:[14]
Argument based on the impossibility of an actual infinite

  1. An actual infinite cannot exist.
  2. An infinite temporal regress of events is an actual infinite.
  3. Therefore, an infinite temporal regress of events cannot exist.
Argument based on the impossibility of the formation of an actual infinite by successive addition

  1. A collection formed by successive addition cannot be an actual infinite.
  2. The temporal series of past events is a collection formed by successive addition.
  3. Therefore, the temporal series of past events cannot be actually infinite.

Pascal's wager is an argument in philosophy presented by the seventeenth-century French philosopher, theologian, mathematician and physicist, Blaise Pascal (1623–1662).[1] It posits that humans bet with their lives that God either exists or does not.

Pascal argues that a rational person should live as though God exists and seek to believe in God. If God does not actually exist, such a person will have only a finite loss (some pleasures, luxury, etc.), whereas if God does exist, he stands to receive infinite gains (as represented by eternity in Heaven) and avoid infinite losses (eternity in Hell)

suicide is weak.
we only have finite time on this earth
why induce the inevitable?

mere existence should inspire hope as the reality of existence means there is a chance that your life can improve
this chance is only strengthened if you live in a 1st world country, arent homeless and have a mother or father or both, not a midget, have 2k calories to eat every day, have all your sensory abilities and suffer from no grave illness or physical ailments - a lot of users here have this and should always remain grateful

living is better than nothing

Instead of killing yourself because your life is supposedly bad, just do something small to improve your life each day :)

You could’ve been born a 5’2 homeless 2PSL curry in the slums of Mumbai, it could be a lot worse. Also if you fail your suicide attempt and end up as a vegetable, your life becomes 1000 times worse

Sounds bluepilled but being suicidal is a superpower, why the fuck would you kill yourself when you could do what ever the fuck you want first and then if it doesn’t work, blow your brains out?

Go beat some random guy up on the street or text 20 girls asking them to fuck, what’s the worse that can happen? They all say no well you’ve always got your rope to lean back on

so what? if he DOES become a vegie, he will still be dead, no memories of his painfull life and free

this is as close as it gets to reincarnation jfl, but with the same body unfortunately

Like what?
You could start gym maxing or just doing any random thing.
People get trapped inside there head, right now your thinking about alot of negative stuff you just have to try to stay out of your mind,I do it all the time, thinking about how poor I am,ugly I am,but once you start finding other things to do (gym, work, etc.) You realize alot of what your thinking is just in your head.

“…tomorrow and plans for tomorrow can have no significance at all unless you are in full contact with the reality of the present, since it is in the present and only in the present that you live.” – Alan Watts.

“A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thought, so he loses touch with reality, and lives in a world of illusions,” -Alan Watts
