Ideal chin to philtrum ratio is very misleading if your philtrum deviates even 1-2 mm from the normal philtrum. If you have a 2.25 ratio with a 13 mm philtrum, it is way too feminine and it is completely over for you.
*** We should all know that chin projection is a must for men and is way more important than chin height, so you will need a chin implant or filler if your chin is even a little recessed or not projected, even if your chin is already in the ideal ratio. ***
Ideal chin to philtrum ratio in terms of p, the length of the philtrum in mm:
f(p) = 3.1 - .2(p - 12) , for values of p when 12 <= p < 16
f(p) = 2.5 - (.1 + .1(p - 16)) , for values of p when 16 <= p <= 18
For values of p > 18, get a lip lift
(p does not have to be an integer)
For example:
12 mm philtrum: 3.1 chin to philtrum (37.2 mm chin)
13 mm philtrum: 2.9 chin to philtrum (37.7 mm chin)
14 mm philtrum: 2.7 chin to philtrum (37.8 mm chin)
15 mm philtrum: 2.5 chin to philtrum (37.5 mm chin)
16 mm philtrum: 2.4 chin to philtrum (38.4 mm chin)
17 mm philtrum: 2.3 chin to philtrum (39.1 mm chin)
18 mm philtrum: 2.2 chin to philtrum (39.6 mm chin)
Having a 40 mm chin with a 12 mm philtrum would just be too disharmonious in ratio, which is why you can have a longer chin with a longer philtrum
*** With a philtrum over 18 mm, you should consider a lip lift to shorten it ***
The inspiration for this post is my 12.5 mm philtrum.
