Autism, essentially a very mathematical way of thinking and the tendency to believe things exactly as they appear, has been called "the extreme male brain" because it is entirely rational. autism is very highly correlated with atheism, because the autist without having absolute proof refuses to believe that the happenings in the world have any "agency" behind them.
On the other extreme those who believe in conspiracy theories or the paranormal do so because they over-perceive agency behind occurrences, they think everything has someone pulling the strings. this domination of rational thinking by emotions/instincts is a trait very common in schizophrenia which is often deemed the "extreme female brain".
but why is it that if, in theory, autism is so negatively correlated with belief in the paranormal and conspiracy theories, are groups like 9/11 truthers so amazingly autistic as a demographic?
could the extreme male/female theories be wrong?
