Not really true. Usually you are only 0.5 better or worse with lens distortion and usually people who look better with lens distortion have low IPDs. And people with long noses look worse with lens distortion but look better from a distance.

This only works if your IPD and midface are compact. I have a long nose but average IPD so I look subhuman in selfies but better in far away pics with no lens distortion.
