If someone says they "think" you look good, you don't

This is exactly how someone would phrase it if you aren't actually good looking and they're just trying to be nice. If you do look good then it will pretty much be an objective thing that everyone can see and agree on so they don't need to stress that it is a personal opinion. It's like saying "I know you aren't a conventionally attractive person and most people don't think you are, but I personally think you look good!!".

If you get the "think", wrap it up, it never began.

You could be genuinely ugly and get that, I've seen it more times than I can count. Especially if you bring up your looks and talk down on yourself regarding that, then the other person will say "well, I think you look good" to kill off the awkwardness so they don't think you agree with them. It's the first thing they will go to when an ugly person complains about their looks. Say that they "think" they are good looking. Watch for the tone too, they don't sound very enthusiastic and convincing when expressing that opinion.
