we've had 50 years now of declining living standards, lowering wages, weaker community ties etc.

That's 12 whole 4 year voting cycles. In the same period China has gone from a gigantic slum to possibly the best place to live in the world.

It's clear democracy just isn't working. It's never worked. if you look at where civilizations made the biggest progress, it's never under democracy.

Democracy just seems to be a way to slowly decline society.
