Abs are mostly genetics though. Some people can have high bodyfat and still show abs.

Rarely you need to be lean, most people can get visible abs when lean, the insertions just affect how aesthetic they look since some people can get well defined symmetrical 6 packs while others get asymmetrical 4 packs
