Lol, yes - in my country too they are also a protected caste, they get like 1% of each real estate transaction just do to a bunch of paperwork, that means thousands of dollars for a house that cost several hundreds of thousands, most of the time they don't even actually do the paperwork, they just sign the documents and the rest is done by their assistants - these are usually law students who pay a lot to do their apprenticeship under a certified notary, so they can later become one too...
