Everyone has to self improve to get women/girls unless they are at chad levels of physical looks.

It's just that for normal, neurotypical people, this improvement starts happening even before puberty when they realize the importance of hygiene, sports, good nutrition and not spending all their waking hours on video games.

Every time that normal kid goes to the barber or sports practice, they are self improving. It's not seen as a project, it's seen as a part of well-adjusted everyday life, the bare minimum.

People who are non-neurotypical or autistic don't understand why hygiene is important, why they should pay attention to nutrition or sports, their parents don't care or encourage them to do these things either. So they end up rotting their teen years in front of video games dreaming a girl will knock on their door one day.

Which never happens, which eventually leads them to online forums when they are 22-29 years old and haven't held the hand of a girl once in their lifetime.
At this point, they are so late to the party they will need incredibly invasive plastic surgery, fat loss and other procedures for a woman their age to consider having sex with them.
