"everything matters", is a nonsignificant statement.
It's true, but it's unhelpful.
Because the real question is:
"How much does .....[something]..... Matter?".

Because if something matters just a little bit. It's a waste of time to put a lot or even some amount of time and effort into that.

For example. An ugly nonhumorous person asks dating advice. Now humor matters, but would one advice him to spend a lot of time on training his humor, doing comedy classes, and so on. He'll just end up in the friendzones at best.
Or would one not bother about the humour aspect. And go straight to what actually matters significantly. And tell him to work on his appearance, and up his looks. Because there his effort and time, gives the best return on his invested effort and time.
