I've been working nightshift for a month now as a gas station clerk. So far its been really good. Not a lot of work either.
A normal day for me would look like this:
I come in at 10:50, do a brief in with the evening shift dude (he just tells me cash totals, stocked out items, etc), clock in at 11, serve a few customers till like 1, and if there isnt anyone, stock fridges/shelves, take out trash, small tasks like that. from 2 to 4 its super quiet. Maybe 1 person comes in every 30 minutes. But thats when i do more important stuff like cleaning the coffee machines, mop the floors, refill condiments, you get the idea. I usually get that done quickly. from 4-6 people start showing up. and i clock out at 7.
The people that come in at this time are usually other night shift workers. There is some type of metal factory nearby so the workers come in to get their cigarettes and food around 2 and 6, which, I assume, are their "lunch" breaks and clock out times.
I have encountered a few homeless people but they were pretty chill. They werent crazy or anything, just your average old dudes. I talked to a few and they said they only buy stuff from stores and night, cuz they dont want people seeing them
