I've seen people talk about wanting to become a doctor/plastic surgeon/whatever BS dream for ages on here, figured I'd offer to answer questions about the process or any other medical stuff. Overall, would not recommend to most if not passionate about the field as it's a pretty long road to likely decreasing reimbursement long-term. In terms of looksmax stuff - definitely a status halo but it can't fix ugly.

Do you think most things you learned in the med school were important for your occupation?

I memorized a lot of minutia to do well on step 1/2 (standardized exams that determine competitiveness for residency) that will never be important. Outside of that, the majority of what I learned formed a good base for my medical knowledge, but I won't use 90% of it regularly once I specialize

We had our first summer off- like 6.5 weeks in total? Most school have built in 2-8 week blocks to study dedicated for step 1/2 after years 2/3. I took mine earlier both times and got 2-3 weeks off after each. End of fourth year is pretty chill and I got another ~6 weeks off at the end.

I'm going into a pretty small field, so I'd rather not dox myself. I will not be a surgeon. I thought I might, but I didn't enjoy operating enough to have that lifestyle. I did operate a bit in medical school, but I would not say I'm qualified or will be.

My parents are both pretty high up medical professionals. They say not to get it under any circumstance. My mother was able to get a religious exemption where she works. My father hasn't had to cross that bridge yet, but if he does and an exemption won't work for him he's gonna quit his job and go work for $20 an hour for the next two years. He'll be able to retire after that. I wouldn't get it. Let the masses do what they will.
