I just look at things logically. Why should a single man be treated the same as a married man who has access to sex? The latter gets to relieve his sexual urges in a lawful manner with a woman. The single man could have gone to a prostitute for sex as well but that would be going against Islam. Therefore if someone like me is single it's ok to masturbate. Although the haram that I do is that I watch porn so I cannot justify such a thing from an Islamic POV. They may seem vague first-hand but if you read the verses before and after and you understand Islamic concepts, it's not vague. Reading the Qur'an in English was very helpful for me. It helped clear misunderstandings. For instance, they say that interest is haram (taking loans against an interest rate) is considered haram, that you're warring against God if you do it anyway, as per the hadiths. However it was clear to me from reading the verses before and after and the context it was in, that it's about asking for interest is haram and not taking loans and paying interest. However no one is willing to listen because it's so deeply ingrained in them that "interest-based loans are haram ."
