Having a successful life is very multifaceted, perhaps the phrasing may have made it seem like I think IQ is irrelevant but that's not what I think.

I don't think IQ is irrelevant I just don't think it's the "critical" factor people make it out to be

I think for one, there is a clear difference between someone's  actual intelligence versus their tested IQ. Problem solving would probably be heavily correlated yeah but the language they speak in, emotional control and the values they were brought up with changes alot. I think many IQ tests that just tests for pattern recognition in increasing difficulty is too shallow to capture this.

Then of course a mix of some pre determined factors. Socio-economic factors and the nation you were brought up in, style of education etc. You could be an idiot and still secure a good job or life this way.

Defining a successful life for me, would be earning relatively well, having good amounts of leisure time and being relatively happy compared to those around you.
