Dont know for sure, he was stationed in Italian slovenia border which was a partly successful italian campaign.
The army was really pushed to its limits though and there were a lot lot of casualities, i assume thats why lots of the surviving officials left italy as there was some animosity against the commanding guys from the lower ranks and families

Yeah the Italian leadership was awful and resulted in catastrophic casualties from 1915-1918
There were 12 battles of the isonzo resulting in like millions of casualties for the italians, and when the Austrians finally launched an offensive of their own at caporetto in 1917 they defeated the Italians (mostly due to German support tho)
It was brutal tho fighting in the mountains and avalanches sometimes destroyed encampments and killed thousands of soldiers, not to mention freezing and frostbite
I think there were even mutinies in the Italian army cuz of how bad the leadership was
It wasnt until the battle of vittorio veneto right before the war ended that the Italians broke the front along with American help and since th Germans could no longer support Austria Hungary
