A dentist in my country (somewhere in Western Europe):
- Makes between €5k to €8k as his first salary (AFTER taxes), and this is the lowest salary he'll ever know as he can specialize in dental implants & set up his own office, which will make him earn between €20k to €50k/mo
- Has a flexible schedule. The first salary I mentioned can be reached by only working three days a week
- Doesn't need connections to succeed unlike many other fields like Finance or Law, which are dominated by a certain caste
- Has insane job stability
- Is respected by his peers (he's a doctor after all)

This is also one of the only jobs that I know of (other than software engineering, if you forget about the frequent and arbitrary layoffs) where you benefit from an INSANE amount of flexibility and freedom, on top of being stable.
You can work 1 day a week and still earn €2,5k/mo (which is still higher than the median salary in my country, around €1,9k/mo), and live decently.
You can work for 6 months and decide to travel the next 6 months.

Drawbacks:
- Takes about 6 years to study & become a dentist. That's still short when you know most people study up to grad school which takes 5 years.
- The exam that grants you access to your 2nd year of med school is tough, but if you get past this ordeal it's impossible to fuck up the rest of your studies.
- You'll need to work on people whose teeth look fucked up. You'll get used to it though + you have a mask and gloves.

I think it's worth it. It's a sacrifice like any other but instead of spending years on a business (which is also respectable) at least you'll land in a career that'll give you a stable income and plenty of time to pursue your other interests while not being exploited.
The average dentist salary in my country is about €200k/year.

There's even one psychopath dentist who devitalized & extracted his clients... patients' teeth so he could insert crowns and make bank off of them (he charged between €1700 and €2200 for each tooth he had to replace). He made millions and only got caught because he exploited the state's healthcare refund system. He made millions off of this. Don't be like him though

Become an actual scam artist at that point. I respect drug dealers and conmen more then dentists at least they are taking an actual risk and have some bravery when making their money. Some of the worst people in the world orthodontists too.

I suppose u live in France since most of the points u talked about are what it is here

Im currently in dental school in France, u remind me myself before going in 1st year of med school, when i figured out that the profession of dentist has by far the best effort/reward ratio, it is accessible (even if u come from a modest family), puts u on the top tier of salary while allowing u a lot of time

Basically everything u mentionned is true, if u have any question ask me

hope u succeed bro

Yes, I'm from France but I didn't really want to mention my country in particular since it could potentially apply to other countries in Western Europe (like Switzerland as @Red Fox mentioned). I think it's similar in the US but the debt you get from attending dental school (or university in general) is a huge drawback, so it's more preferable to study something like computer science if you want a decent job (in some cases you don't even need a degree). Plus since France is part of the EU, you can just go to Spain or Portugal to attend dental school there (easier studies) & come back to France since the diploma is recognized in all member countries of the union. At this point it's a cheat code. I'll DM you

Not sure it allows the same flexibility as being a dentist but generally speaking anything related to medecine is a huge status boost + you're guaranteed to make a decent living

I have quite a few family members that are veterinarians

It's an absolute garbage job, 30 years ago it was a good job. It isn't anymore.

Shit salary, one of the highest suicide rates of any job, as long and harder than med school but half the respect and 1/3rd the salary.

Unlike med school you have to pay yourself to specialise, say you wanna become an eye specialist, getting those years of training will be paid by YOURSELF.

Absolute garbage job, only morons would become a vet in 2023

It's not that easy otherwise everyone would do it.

Water. Anything worth doing is difficult or isn't easily attainable. Running a business isn't that easy otherwise everyone would do it. Learning to code isn't that easy otherwise everyone would do it. Getting good grades isn't that easy otherwise everyone would have them.

Go be a dentist dummy. Same shit as med school. Need good grades from a young age otherwise no.

its such an insane job if you don't need money up front. But if u need cash for surgeries u are so fucked because medical school makes you accumulate an unreal amount of debt which you will never pay off unless you make it (if you dont make it, you will have to rope).
But imagine waking up and stealing peoples teeth for INSANE money. Then u can recommend retractive orthodontics to people who piss you off (fuck up their entire life) or jaw surgery to ascend people who you think deserve it.

He lives in France and dental school is free here but u have to pass the 1st year exam which is quite hard
In my case there were only 40 places for dental school and 1200 students at the exam
