Well it can make your teeth more symmetrical, for example someone might have a dental arch with teeth that are tipped in on one side. It's just basic orthodontics.

Obviosly just widening the dental arch instead of the maxilla without need for correcting existing asymmetry would just result in your bite collapsing (your lower dental arch doesn't match with upper anymore)
